Falls Sports Awards Night

The Fall Sports Awards Night will be held on Wednesday, November 14th at 6:30 at Independence High School.  All High School Fall athletes and their parents should plan to attend.

Fast Times at State Meet

The State Meet is beginning to feel like HOME for the Blue Devils Cross Country team.  The boys team made their 4th straight appearance at the meet this year.  In a race that came down to the final 400 meters, Kyle Polman finished third place with a time of 15:24.  All of the boys ran personal bests which helped the team finish 9th place. Kyle earned All Ohio honors.  Senior Ryan Kuzilla finished 27th in 16:19.  Other Independence runners included Shane Mathew 75th (17:09), Shane Bender 101st (17:40), Colin Jedrzejek 117th (17:56), David Wisniewski 119th (17:57), and Matt Terrano 121st (17:59).
For the first time in almost ten years, the girls sent a runner to the State Meet as well.  Jen Wisniewski finished 22nd place earning All Ohio honors as she broke her own school record with a time of 19:13.

Friday, Nov 2nd:
10:00 Clap off after 3rd period (around 10:00)
All boys will participate in clap off along with Jen Wisniewski.

10:45 Competing runners and team alternate will change and get training run done from school immediately after. Be changed/stretched and ready to run by 10:45.

Change and shower after training run.  
Team lunch at school for those traveling to Columbus.

NOON Depart from school between Noon and 12:30.

Team will go to the course to walk the course and get t-shirts/meet souvenirs.  Then to the hotel and to team dinner at a restaurant afterwards.

There are several routes you can take....this route avoids the back roads but may not be the best route to take on Sat as there will be heavy traffic.  It is approximately a 2 hour 45 min drive from Independence.  However, please be aware there is limited entrances to the park so expect heavy delays on Sat! Last year it took me over an hour to get into the park from the freeway which was only 2 miles.

A Winning Weekend

The Blue Devils Raced at the Cardinal Invitational on Saturday and came away with lots of WINS!!
Winning the boys High School race was Kyle Polman, while his brother Tyler won the Middle School boys race.  On the girls side, Jenn Wisniewski won the High School race.  Both the High School and Middle School teams won team titles.  Way to go!

Middle School Boys Win Open Door

Congrats to the Blue Devils Middle School Boys Cross Country team as they captured the team title.  Leading the way and breaking the course record was Tyler Polman who finished in 11:11.  Also finishing in the top were Kevin Clymer finishing 2nd and Luke Swauger in 5th place.  On the girls side, Maria Sagi took third place.

Note: There are several ways to get there off of the turnpike...this is the fastest way but watch for road signs!

Brecksville High School:

Turn right on Mill Rd. and the school will be on the left.
NO PARKING at Hilton Elementary (this is where race starts/finishes).
The High School is located less than .5 miles away and there is a connecting driveway from Middle/High School to the area where the race starts/finishes.

TWO CHAMPIONS

The Blue Devil's Cross Country Teams travelled to Lorain County Community College this past weekend to race at the Early Bird Invite. The team came away with some great performances and two wins! Kevin Clymer won the Middle School Boys race in a dead out sprint to the line while Kyle Polman dominated the Boys Gold Race and finished almost a minute ahead of second place.
Kyle was named Plain Dealer Athlete of the Week and Kevin was The Independence Blue Devil Athlete of the week.
